Are you prepared this time round? A year ago everyone was just getting ready for Christmas when suddenly snow struck everywhere. Without their staff in the office businesses came to a standstill! All of that pain can be avoided though by preparing in advance. Our top tips for keeping your business running during the snow are as follows…
- Provide a virtual desktop for your employees. This can be as simple as remotely logging in to their desktop in the office, or connecting to a data centre based terminal server with a complete replica of their files. Read here about how Centric IT keep Global Tax Network at their desk wherever they are.
- Make sure you can still take phone calls. If you have a traditional standard phone line then divert calls to a responsible persons mobile who can then pass messages on via mobile to everyone else. If you have a VoIP phone system however your employees should be able to take their handsets home and plug in to their internet and act as if they’re at their desks! Read how Centric IT implemented VoIP for Total Environmental Management.
- Be certain of your back up strategy. Make sure all your files are stored on servers, and then backed up off site. Snow leads to power cuts, and power cuts mean both no remote access and possibly damaging your file servers. With an off site backup solution your files should be available wherever you are to get yourself up and running again quickly. Check our our off site backup product Hardhat.
- Don’t take unnecessary risks and waste time! Once you’ve got the above all in place just tell your staff not to bother trying to come in if it snows, simply go to Plan B and work from home! Last year hours upon hours of time was wasted in traffic jams trying to get in, assuming you could get off your driveway at all!
Finally, read here about how we brought the entire solution together for Gordons Solicitors giving them total flexibility in where they work, and no fear at all of the MET office weather warnings!
