Teikyo Foundation is a specialist Japanese school based in an impressive period property on a large 20 acre site in Slough, Buckinghamshire.
The Business Challenge
The school occupies a large physical site of over 20 acres, containing a number of other specialist schools within the same site. With no existing technical infrastructure and limited budgets in comparison to the challenges presented, the school had an immediate requirement to improve upon its existing IT setup, which comprised of only five PCs and a home broadband internet connection.
The Centric Approach
Both language and cultural differences were very apparent, so it was important to us to allocate the first stage of the project to researching Japanese business culture to ensure we honoured traditional Japanese business practices. The initial project extended from IT infrastructure, to Centric IT becoming a trusted source of guidance for other technical operations within the school including CCTV, monitoring systems, site security & clocking systems and security policies. Cost effectiveness was key, so we ensured we planned for perceived growth.
The Centric Solution
We implemented a site-wide telephony system using VoIP for a secure and flexible solution that provided privacy between the different schools on-site, but at the same time allowed them to easily communicate amongst themselves. Using fibre to cover long distances, we install a campus-wide network, using VLans to allow individual tenants to share the same physical infrastructure.
Results
The client received a comprehensive and quality solution, providing an effective, ‘neat’ setup, which is easy and cost effective to make changes and upgrades to in the future. The solution provided huge improvements to the previous IT infrastructure, with the phone system’s use of the new infrastructure delivering substantial cost savings and service improvements, allowing each tenant to be billed individually for its own calls.
